Another perk of being part of Working Writers of Wisconsin—advance notice of the social event of the year... for those past a certain age.
“Son of Mad Men”
When the Mad Men were still ensconced comfortably (some preparing for retirement) in the 70’s, we were junior copywriters at agencies like Klau-Van Pietersom-Dunlap or at companies like Gimbel's; production assistants; junior account executives at Hoffman, York, Paulson & Gerlach; keyline & pasteup artists at Frank Bercker Studios or Designhaus; or were pushing mail carts down the hallways at CK or Channel 12. You saw the apocalyptical beginning of the end of the glory days, as more and more client companies prepared to pack their bags, or had their acreage turned into shopping malls, or downsized themselves off the rolls of advertisers and into near oblivion.
But while it was going on...it was incredible!
My candle burns at both ends
It will not last the night;
But ah, my foes, and oh, my friends -
It gives a lovely light.
Edna St. Vincent Millay
“If you can remember the 70s, you weren't there.”
Tuesday, October 19th Dave Baldwin's Safe House—erstwhile home of the three martini lunch. From 4 to 8:30 pm (It can go longer for some
people, but most of the ones we know who were around in the 70s like to be home by nine to get ready for bed.) No admission charge, but also no free food, no free drinks—the days of the lavish media parties are long gone.
If you started in the 80s, 90s, or oughts, stay away (hot chick exception is in place here—sorry, hangover from the chauvinistic 70s)—throw your own damn party!
Pass the word to older friends.
Anybody who qualifies, and we're serious about the era restrictions, let me know and I'll include you on the updates.
We're not relying on RSVPs, we'll be checking people in and keeping within the capacity set by the fire code.
